The makeup expert and TikTok’s self-appointed beauty big sister just broke down everything we have been getting wrong, and the results she gets on her own short, sparse, straight lashes are the proof.
Most of us have been applying mascara since we were teenagers sneaking our mum’s makeup bag. Which is exactly the problem.
Nobody ever actually taught us how to do it properly. We just figured it out, called it good, and moved on.
But makeup expert and beauty creator @glamzilla is here to tell you, with all the warmth and urgency of an older sister who genuinely cannot believe what she is seeing: you think you know, but you really, really do not.
And the proof is in her own lashes; short, straight, and sparse by her own admission; which look absolutely full and fanned out by the end of her video. No lash curler. No falsies. Just mascara applied correctly.
“I don’t got lashes. I’m Asian, girl,” she says plainly at the start of the video, holding up the mascara that is about to do things you did not think were possible.
“So I have short, straight, sparse lashes. But the way you apply your mascara is so important.”
What follows is four minutes of the kind of information that genuinely makes you feel like you have been doing a basic life skill wrong for years, which, it turns out, you have.
The Rules — Start Here Before You Even Open the Tube
RULE 01
Your Lashes Must Be Completely Dry
Before mascara touches your lashes, everything else needs to be off them.
“There can’t be eye cream on it. Your skincare cannot be on your lashes,” Glamzilla says firmly.
Any moisture or residue on the lashes creates a barrier between the formula and the hair, which means the mascara cannot grip, coat, or build properly.
Do your eye look, and make sure everything is fully set and dry before you reach for the mascara wand. This step alone will change your results.
RULE 02
One Swipe Is Not One Coat — Know the Difference
This is the thing nobody tells you and Glamzilla is very passionate about making sure you understand it.
“One swipe is different than one coat, okay?” she says, and then she says it again, and again, because it is that important.
“You need to coat your lashes in the formula. You need to work that formula in between your lashes — from root to tip. Root to tip. Root to tip.”

A coat means your lashes are fully saturated in the formula from the base all the way to the very end of each lash.
A swipe is just passing the wand through once and hoping for the best.
The difference in results between the two is, as she demonstrates on camera, genuinely shocking.
“If your lashes are coated from root to tip, you are going to get the results that you see on social media and in the lash commercials.” And she is right.
One proper coat looks like what you thought three swipes were supposed to achieve.
RULE 03
Let the First Coat Dry Before You Go in With the Second
A mascara formula is designed to be built up in layers, but only when each layer has had a chance to set.
“Think of paint,” Glamzilla says. “Think of layers. To apply a second coat and get the results you want, you need to let the first coat dry.”
Going in too quickly with a second coat just moves the first coat around and creates clumps rather than volume.
Wait, let it set, then go back in.
“Now you’re going to see that volume, that length be built — because you’re applying your mascara properly. You see how separated the lashes are?”
BONUS RULE 04
The Angle of Your Wand Controls the Shape of Your Lashes
Once you have mastered the coat, she has one more trick that takes things to the next level, and it is all about angle.
“You saw me apply my mascara going up. So my lashes are going to go up,” she explains.
“Now, if I were to take my mascara and apply it in an angled motion, my lashes are going to be angled, because that’s how I manipulated the formula.”
Applying the wand straight up gives you lift. Angling it outward as you coat, still root to tip, gives you that fanned-out, wide-eyed effect.
“This is two different mascara applications. And when you do that, you get two different lash results.”
Pick your angle based on the look you want, and work it consistently through every lash.
