If you have ever finished rinsing with store-bought mouthwash and immediately wondered why your mouth feels like it just survived a chemical fire, you are not imagining things.
A lot of conventional mouthwashes do work at freshening breath, but they can also wipe out the beneficial bacteria your mouth actually depends on.
That burning, dry feeling afterwards? That is not cleanliness. That is disruption.
And creator @glowingwithgracee is done with it, and so is her mum, who has been quietly making a better version at home for a while now.
“My mom is about to de-influence you from ever buying mouthwash from the store again,” Grace says in her video.
“She makes her own at home using just three simple ingredients; ones that actually support your oral microbiome instead of using harsh ingredients that leave your mouth burning after using it.”
And honestly? After seeing the recipe, it is hard to argue with her.
Homemade Clove & Cinnamon Mouthwash
"Around here, we like to keep things simple and use natural ingredients that work with the body and not against it.
"The cloves are the star of the show," Grace confirms. "They're antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory, which makes them amazing for oral health." And if you want to keep things even simpler? Grace says you can skip the baking soda, or even the cinnamon entirely. "As long as you got the cloves and water, you're good to go."
Grace's mum also likes to lightly break up the herbs before steeping, crushing the cloves slightly and snapping the cinnamon sticks, to help release more of their natural properties into the water. A small step that makes a real difference to how potent the final mouthwash turns out.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 4–5 whole cloves
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions
- Add cloves and the cinnamon stick to a heat-safe jar.
- Pour boiled water over the spices.
- Stir in the baking soda.
- Lightly cover (do not seal) and let it steep for 2–4 hours, until the liquid cools and turns a darker colour.
- Strain out the cloves and cinnamon.
- Pour into a clean jar or bottle.
Notes
Do not tightly seal the jar while the mixture is still hot; leave the lid loosely placed so steam can escape.
Swish one to two tablespoons for 20 to 30 seconds, spit it out, and never swallow.
Store it in the fridge and use it within one to two weeks. That is genuinely it.

Let us know in the comments if you make this one.
And yes, your mouth will feel completely different on the other side.
