Summer-proof, sweat-resistant, performance-ready, impossibly dewy: this two-ingredient formula is the glow secret your makeup bag has been missing.

Featuring @RobertWelshMUA

There’s something about K-pop makeup that feels almost unreal.

One minute an idol is under blinding stage lights, dancing through a six-minute choreography routine, and somehow their skin still looks fresh, glowy, and perfectly blurred by the end of the performance.

No cakiness. No patchiness. Just radiant skin that looks even better as the hours go by.

So when makeup artist Robert Welsh put this viral K-beauty foundation trick that claims to keep skin looking flawless through long days and intense performances, we paid attention.

And honestly? The results speak for themselves.

Advert 🖤 As a professional makeup artist, one of my favourite things is learning new techniques and experimenting with makeup! Korean makeup artists have such an incredible reputation when it comes to product knowledge and creating that fresh, perfected skin finish… so when I saw the viral foundation hack mixing @mixsoon bean essence with your foundation, I had to test the claims! The way it made my base sit on the skin was so beautiful!! Super glowy, more hydrated without being oily and just really skin-like without feeling heavy! After wearing it all day, I can fully see why so many Korean MUAs swear by this technique! #mixsoon #beanessence #makeuphack #mixsoonbeanessence

The Two-Step Formula You Need

The hack is this: instead of applying foundation straight from the bottle, you mix two pumps of foundation with one pump of a skin essence.

That’s it.

Welsh tested it himself using the Mixoon PDRN Collagen Tinted Moisturiser and the Mixoon Beam Essence.

When the mixture first hits your skin, Welsh notes it goes on “kind of stringy and strange” but don’t let that scare you off.

It melts right in and leaves behind this cooling, skin-like finish that feels like it’s genuinely wrapped around your face rather than sitting on top of it.

“My skin doesn’t feel greasy but it has this insane glow. I’m not powdering it. This is a real wear test.”

— Robert Welsh, Makeup Artist

Why It Actually Works?

If your skin tends to look dull, dry, or tired halfway through the day, especially in summer, this trick makes a lot of sense.

By mixing skincare directly into foundation, the base becomes thinner, more blendable, and more comfortable on the skin.

Instead of sitting heavily on top of your face, it melts in seamlessly and moves naturally throughout the day.

Welsh, who describes his skin as oily yet dehydrated, was initially convinced the mixture would end up looking greasy. Instead, he said it felt like the products had “wrapped” his skin.

And the finish? Glowy without looking oily.

The Real Test Was the Wear Time

The most convincing part of the experiment was that Welsh didn’t set the makeup with powder. No touch-ups. No blotting. No midday rescue mission.

After filming, walking around, eating lunch, and wearing the makeup throughout the entire day, his skin still looked smooth and luminous with minimal separation.

This is my skin at the end of a very long day,” he shared later in the test. “Bear in mind I have not powdered once.”

Even after hours of wear, the makeup still maintained that soft reflective finish K-pop artists are famous for. The glow remained intact, but the skin didn’t appear heavy or overly slick.

NOTE: If your summer makeup feels like a constant battle between wanting coverage and wanting your skin to breathe, try this trick.

The easiest way to recreate the look is to mix:

  • Two pumps of your favorite foundation or skin tint
  • One pump of a hydrating essence or glow serum

Blend the products together on the back of your hand before applying with a sponge or brush.

If you have oily skin, you can still lightly powder around the T-zone while leaving the rest of the skin radiant. But if you love that glossy K-pop-inspired finish, try wearing it as-is first.

You might be surprised by how fresh your skin still looks by the end of the day.

Welsh went one shade deeper than his usual match to counteract the washing-out effect of studio lights. For everyday wear, stick to your true shade, the glow will be more than enough to make you pop.
