We’ve watched plenty of nail trends come and go, but every so often one loops back around feeling more relevant than ever.
Polka dot nails.
We know what you’re thinking—didn’t we already do this in the ’90s? Yes. But that’s exactly the point.
Polka dot outfits have been having their summer moment, and so, let’s give it to polka dot nails too.

They aren’t your childhood Claire’s manicure; and honestly, they might be the chicest retro trend to hit our feeds all year.
A well-placed dot is graphic without trying too hard, nostalgic without feeling costume-y, and endlessly customizable, whether you’re going for a single accent dot or an all-over confetti effect.

Celebrities and nail artists alike can’t stop reaching for it, and we’re not surprised: it’s the rare manicure that feels equally at home on a minimalist and a maximalist.
Ahead, we’ve rounded up 50 of our favorite polka dot manicures to screenshot before your next appointment.
From tiny, sprinkled accents to bold, oversized spots, there’s a version here for absolutely everyone.

1. Start with the Classic Black and White Polka Dots
There’s a reason this pairing has never gone out of style. It is classic, graphic, timeless, and it photographs beautifully every single time.
You can achieve the look with a crisp white base, a nude pink base if your nails have a pinkish undertone or a nude base for my black girlies.

Finish with hand-painted black dots using a dotting tool or the end of a bobby pin, or flip the formula with a black base and white dots for a bolder, more graphic effect.
For an easier route, plenty of nail salons now offer polka dot press-ons or stickers in this exact colorway if you’re short on patience (or a steady hand).

2. Butter Yellow for a Full-On Moment
Butter yellow has quietly taken over everything from handbags to blazers, so it was only a matter of time before it landed on our nails.
The easiest way to try it is a soft butter-yellow base with tiny white or cream dots for a muted, milky effect, or go higher-contrast with pink, brown or black dots for something a little more gingham-coded.
If you want it to feel extra of-the-moment, ask your nail artist for a glossy, “milk bath” finish to keep the whole look soft rather than saturated.

3. Cat Eye Polka Dot Nails
Just when we thought the cat eye manicure couldn’t get any more hypnotic, someone added polka dots into the mix, and honestly, it’s genius.
To recreate it, a magnetic gel polish is applied first and pulled into that signature shimmering line with a magnet before dots are painted on top in a contrasting shade.

4. A Little Blue for your Polka Dots
Blue polka dots have a way of feeling both preppy and a little bit whimsical, which is exactly why they keep popping up on our radar.
You can go classic with a neutral base and cornflower or cobalt blue dots, or invert it with a pale blue base and crisp white dots for a more nautical, coastal-grandmother-approved finish.
Baby blue with yellow dots is another underrated combo if you want something that reads a little more sophisticated than sweet.

5. Polka Dots, But Make Them Autumnal
Yes, polka dots can absolutely do fall—it just requires a slight palette shift.
Swap your whites and pastels for warm, moody bases like rust, burnt orange, or deep olive, then add dots in cream, gold, or chocolate brown for a cozy, seasonal twist.

6. Wait, Can Polka Dots Even Do Red?
Short answer: yes, and it might be our favorite iteration yet.
A classic red base with white polka dots gives major vintage pin-up energy, while a nude or cream base with red dots feels more like a modern, ladylike update.
For something bolder, try red-on-red tonal dots using a glossy finish over a matte base so the pattern still reads without adding another color into the mix.

7. For the Maximalists, These One are For You
If a few subtle dots feel too restrained for your personality, this is your sign to go bigger.
Think multicolored dots in varying sizes scattered across each nail, dots layered over a French tip, or an all-over confetti effect using three or more shades at once.
You can even mix in glitter or chrome dots for extra dimension. The goal here isn’t restraint, it’s maximum impact.
